San Carlos Real Estate: The City of Good Living

San Carlos proudly carries its nickname “The City of Good Living,” a designation that the community earned in the 1930s and has continued to validate through the decades as the mid-Peninsula city between Belmont and Redwood City has maintained the combination of a vibrant walkable downtown on Laurel Street, excellent schools, a range of residential environments from the flatland Caltrain-adjacent neighborhoods to the hillside streets with their Bay views, and a community character that the engaged resident population has consistently sustained through active involvement in local government, schools, and civic life. The Laureola Park neighborhood south of downtown, the hillside Brittan Heights and Heather Highlands neighborhoods to the west, and the flatland El Sereno and Clearfield Park areas to the east create the residential variety within a relatively small city that makes San Carlos attractive to buyers across a range of lifestyle preferences and price sensitivities.

The Caltrain station at San Carlos (with express service available during peak hours) provides the transit connectivity that positions San Carlos as an accessible commute community for both San Francisco and Silicon Valley employment. The San Carlos downtown on Laurel Street — with its bookshop, restaurants, wine bar, and the independent retail that reflects the community’s investment in the local commercial character — provides the walkable commercial environment that the established family residential community has built its identity around. The Charles Lee Tilden Regional Park access via the trails in the hillside areas and the Edgewood County Park on the western slopes of the hills adjacent to San Carlos provide the open space access that the hillside community’s residents use for daily recreational access.

The San Carlos School District serves K-8 students, with consistently strong academic performance. Secondary students attend Carlmont High School in the Sequoia Union High School District.
